2007 Conflict South 40k Doubles Tournament

Introduction

Ok after blitzing through 30 firewarriors and painting a shas el in 11 days i was ready to team up with Nick's already painted (award winning) eldar.

Our list was.

Farseer - Guide

5 Dire Avengers + Exarch with bladestorm

Wave Serpent TL Bright lance

3 Warwalkers with 2 scatterlasers on each (24 shots on total with rerolls to hit because of guide).

Shas El - TL Fusion Blaster (melta gun), Shield Generator (4+inv) and Stimulent Injectors (feel no pain)

8 Fire Warriors - Pulse Rifles

1 Shas'Ui - Pulse rifle

8 Fire Warriors - Pulse Rifles

1 Shas'Ui - Pulse rifle

8 Fire Warriors - Pulse Rifles

1 Shas'Ui - Pulse rifle

8 Fire Warriors - Pulse Rifles

1 Shas'Ui - Pulse rifle

The idea behind our list was pure weight of fire. The firewarriors once in rapid fire range were kicking out a hell of a lot of str5 shots, but even at range they were doing the business. Nick's scatterlasers... sorry i mean warwalkers  destroyed whatever was put in front of them. The Shas El was our sacrificial deepstrike tank hunter.

Game 1.

Ok when we arrived we got shuffled along to the table. We were playing the people that arrived just before us. It was a couple of young lads using Dark angels and Tau.

Their list was something around

Walking captain

5 man tac squad

Dreadnought

3 ravenwing bikes

Shas'O Commander

6 firewarriors

2x broadsides

2x sniper drone teams.

Mission - Seek and destroy gamma

Deployment saw them set up each drone team in the corners. Broadsides in the centre. All the DA stuff was in the centre.

Our deployment was pretty much in the centre of the board, letting our long ranges cover the field.

Before first turn Nick moved his warwalkers behind cover (scout move). The ploy of deploying in the open and getting them to deploy their models to face off against them worked.

First Turn

They won it. The dread and bikes moved forward full speed, with the captain and tac squad walking forward to some barricades.

Their dread fired its lascannon and killed a walker. I think i lost a FW or 2 from sniper drones.

We then started firing, we knocked out the dread first making the captain thew closest target, they didn't join him to a unit. The FW knocked off 2 wounds. The other firewarriors killed a couple of tac marines, and the warwalkers dealt with the ravenwing bikes completely destroying them.

This knocked our young opponants for six.

Second Turn

They move tac squad and captain into the cover of barricades. No other movement. We'd kept all our vehicles out of line of fire of the broadsides and out of the range of the sniper drones in the each far corner. So they opened up on the Fire Warriors killing a few more here and there, nothing major.

We then followed up by moving the waveserpent in such a way it could only see a single broadside. Scatterlasers squared off against enemy firewarriors and my fire warriors took aim against the wounded captain.

Waveserpent instant killed a broadside and his mate failed his test and ran off the board. Scatterlasers killed firewarriors, and the last wound fell from the captain.

Third Turn

They moved their sniper drones closer to get better fire arcs. Not shooting from these this turn then. 2 tac marines moved into rapid fire range and opened up. 3 wounds were saved by the fire warriors 4+ armour. Their Shas 'O Deepstriked in and tried to airburst fragmentate our Firewarriors on our right flank. His shot scattered off target.

Our movement comprised of moving behind area terrain to get out of the sniper drones fire. Their stealth field generators mean you have to roll night fighting rules to hit them. And they were a good 30" away, so pointless even trying. FW rapid fired the Shas'O killing him. The central FW rapid fired the 2 tac marines.

Fourth Turn Onwards

No kills from the 2 remaining sniper drone teams.

My Shas'El finall turned up and TL fusion blasted a drone out of the sky. Took the return fire and saved it all and then the following turn charged the drone team beating them in combat.

Victory Points was 1750(ish) to their 250(ish).

Game 2 - Recon Gamma

Our opponants were called Watford's Finest (We checked they don't go to HG's Club - go to GW Watford instead).

Their list was Eldar and Marines.

Farseer (Doom) on jetbike

6 Dire Avengers

2 Fire Prisms

Ven dread (assualt cannon)

Landspeeder tornado

3 ravenbikes

5 tac marines

Deployment

They had the bikes and fireprisms on our right flank the rest was on our left flank.

We loaded up a building with 20 firewarriors. and stuck the rest in a central wood with decent fire lines.

Before turn 1 bikes and walkers scouted. Walkers hiding again. Bikes making a full 12" dash for it.

First turn

We won the roll, wave serpent moved up to bright lance a speeder, only for Nick to find out the range is 36" not 48" as he'd been playing it. Out of range. Fire warriors killed 2 dire avengers. Scatter lasers immobilised the ven dread with pesky rerolls.

Their movement consisted of moving up behind cover, the speeder kept its distance and fired only its heavy bolter, a couple of FW fell.

They opened up with TL both prisms and killing 3 or 4 FWs, who failed their morale check and ran.

Second Turn.

FW rallied. Nick cut down their bikes with scatter lasers. FW drew line of site to a couple of tac marines and killed them. Waveserpent advanced and the dire avenegers got out and bladestormed the marines. leaving 3 standing

The enemy Farseer failed his psychic test and got sucked into the warp despite wearing a ghost helm and needing 3s to survive. Fire prisms killed 1 or 2 more fire warriors (we'd proper spread them out full 2" apart). Their remaining Dire Avengers charged Nicks Dire Avengers.

Tac marines moved up behind cover. Speeder failed to make a mark. Dread couldn't shoot this turn.

Third and final turn.

Shas El Turned Up and landed behind the lead prism. Scored a glancing hit against the skimmer. Rolled 2 damage dice and picked the lowest. Can't shoot  (no swearing)!

Fire warriors rapid fired marines no deaths. Dire avengers continued to fight dire avengers. Wave serpent limped back to our deployment hidden from enemy guns.

Their turn saw the Fire prisms zoom into our deployment. Their marines pistol shot the fire warriors, with me specifically taking out the Shas Ui for them to run away more easier. It worked. They ran off lol, stopped him assaulting me.

And that was it for game 2. Totalled up the points and it was a draw.

They only killed 100pts of stuff, but the scoring wave serpents kept them in the game.

This was the worst game of the day. With one of opponants being a snotty 15 year old kid that picked over everything we done, despite doing it himself. Me and Nick are vets and neither of us are interested in cheating. We just don't do it, but being accused by it constantly when we can see him do it was frustrating and left a bitter taste in our mouth.

His distances he measured with a moving tape measure. Melta gun armed biker swapping places with the lead biker meaning the melta gunner mover over 18".

Us reminding him to a take a break test and then the brat had the nerve to say to us, "can you remind us a bit quicker in future" to which i replied "no its your test we shouldn't have to remind you". The older other fella was sound though. And we could tell he was embarrassed about the kid.

Not to mention they were late for the game. My mate Ru had finished his game and we hadn't even started. So 3 turns was annoying.

When adding up our victory points, the kid just so happened to forget to add the entire bike squad we killed, and declared themselves the winners. Before Nick pointed out what about the bikes, making it a draw.

So frustrating, and completely unenjoyable.

Last Game of the day - Game 3 - Take and Hold - Gamma

Our Opponants were Red Scorpians and Cadian Imperial Guard.

Red Scorps

Terminators (2x assualt cannons)

Sniper scout squad (missile launcher)

2 Landspeeders (1 squadron)

Guard

Was a couple of infantry platoons and a Command HQ i think Was a lot of bodies.

Deployment Saw them have their speeders hidden behind some woods on our right. In the wood was a tonne of guard plus sniper scouts.

In their centre they had another tonne of guard. On our left was more guard lol.

We deployed Eldar on left, and fire warriors centre and on the right.

First turn.

We won it again. Wave serpent and walkers began to flank on the left.

Fire warriors stayed put and opened up. I destroyed a squad in the centre. And Nick destroyed a squad on our left. 20 Casualties on the first turn. Nice.

Their speeders flew out and a destroyed 10 fire warriors. They failled to do anything else.

Second Turn

Ok after our initial success we thought this was going to be easy. So Nick opened up with scatter lasers dealing with another squad. And i threw 18 shots at the speeders and failled to damage them... ut oh... The waveserpent flew into the centre hidden behind the area terrain.

The reacted swiftly and started moving up on the objective. Land speeders with their lucky escape moved in and destroyed the wave serpent kiling 4 avengers on board. Entangled.

Third Turn

Shas'El failled to arrive again, all day he had been a late show. I moved 18 firewarriors from the centre into rapid fire range of the speeders, 36 str5 shots later and now they were down. A little too late perhaps.

Nick's scatter lasers started picking on a central unit now, and destroyed yet another squad.

They'd discovered the walkers were leathal and the terminators deep stiked in to deal with the threat. Killing 1 and stopping the other 2 shooting... ut oh, i think we underestimated the marines and picked on the guard a little too much!

Fourth Turn

The Shas'El arrived! Things were hotting up now, the waveserpent and dire avengers targetted the terminators, while my fire warriors moved up to rapid fire some guard.

Shas 'El Landed neatly behind the terminators and fried one with its fusion blaster. The fire warriors took out the command unit of guard.

The terminators laid out more fire power and charged the walkers destroying them. Sniper scouts and guard destroyed all but 2 fire warriors leaving the 2 to run away.

Fifth and Sixth Turn

Ok with only a shas'el, farseer, 9 fire warriors and 2 avengers left we had issues. We were facing off against a sniper squad, a junior officer and command unit, and a squad or 2 of guard, not to mention 4 terminators... Culd we pull it off?

Shas'El moved closer to the terminators, fired and destoyed another.

Farseer threw its spear and failed to hit the terminators. blade storming Dire Avengers and rapid firing fire warriors poured fire power into the hulking armoured forms but failed to slay anymore. 3 terminators remained, farseer and shas'el charged, farseer failled to do it, but the shas'El downed another in combat! He'd managed to kill in total 3 single handedly, earning half points for VPS.

But it was all 2 late, the shas'el got chinned by a power fist and failled its inv saves, the scouts and guard were on the objective.

The terminators after crushing the shas'el followed up against the previous rapid firing fire warriors and wiped out the unit from shooting and combat...

We'd lost...

But...

It was the best game of the day, both sides agreed it was the best game they'd played and it was troop heavy on both sides which made for a great game. No sneaky tricks, just good ol' plain fire power fun on both sides.

And who'd have thought a Tau could kill a terminator in combat fantastic!

Great opponants, who went on to win best painted 40k army of the event. And deservedly so the guard was incredibly detailled, with stubble hair, and great little touchs throughout.

Their Team name was the best as well. Ther guard player was a politely spoken middle aged guy, and the red scorpians player was decked in black, black make up, metal spikes, bullet belt, long black hair... and thier tam name was The Goth and the toff! rotflmao

Best game of the day, great laugh.
