Bunker by Greywolf
Well, HLU asked me to build him a peice of terrain in trade for a mini, so I took up the challenge. I new it would have to be fairly small to ship and sturdy enough to withstand the journey. So I decided on a bunker. The materials list was as follows:
- Foamboard
- toothpicks
- PVA
- 1/2" Polystyrene
- Sprue peices
- Krylon Make it Stone
- Krylon Grey Primer
- GW Badab Black Wash
- An Auspex
- An imperial Eagle/Skull emblem
- Imperial Eagle Decal
- Corrugated Cardboard
- Sand
I did not take a bunch of WIP pics, but you guys will be able to get the gist of it from the ones I did take. The first set is where the foamboard has been cut (one outer wall peice and one inner wall peice for each side) to give the windows that "double" thick look. Used the toothpicks to pin the walls together to hold while the glue dried and left in. Next shaped a peice of polystyrene to use as the roof. Once the glue dried on that, sprayed the whole peice with the Krylon Make it Stone. The door (made from a peice of foamboard and sprue peices) was put together and painted seperately from the peice. Had it in the picks just to show how it would look.
Once the Stone affect was dry, I sprayed the whole peice with the Krylon Grey primer. Next I glued the finished door in place. I based it to a peice of corrugated cardboard that I had reinforced the edges on with PVA glue. I trimmed down an Auspex to represent a door/commo box and added an imeperial seal to the front. The bullet holes (if you can see them! LOL) were done by just using my pin vice and the battle damabe to the roof by just digging it out with a hobby knife (note that you have to repaint that area afterwards). Finally I have the whole thing a good wash with the Badab Black and finished it by basing with sand. Now normally I would have put a radar or antenna array on the roof but felt it would not survive the trip and that it was simple enough for HLU to do. I also did not paint the sand as he plans on building a table and figured he would like to match it to that.
